Twisted Nightmares is a collection of horror stories selected from submissions by many different authors. As with Twisted History, some stories are written by traditional horror writers while others are written by authors of other genres, giving a “twist” to the subject. The mix of authors should keep you guessing and present you with a smorgasbord of deadly, scary and creepy stories.
Why did Napoleon and Robert E. Lee suddenly abandon their principles of maneuver causing them to lose in frontal assaults at Waterloo and Gettysburg? What if Eva Braun was not just the innocent young girlfriend? What monster did Truman and J. Edgar Hoover keep from the public? What if Shakespeare knew about golf and Plato had a sick sense of humor? All these questions and more are explored in Twisted History: An Alternative History Anthology. Written by rising stars in the literary world, enjoy their unique takes on what could have been.
The Travelers’ Club is back!
As 1880 draws to a close, the members of the secret British adventuring group known as The Travelers’ Club are back in the saddle and looking for trouble.
After spending more than fifteen years away, former Confederate Sharpshooter Ash Cooper reluctantly returns to Maryland. This time, Ash’s best friend Lord Reginald Harcourt is the fish out of water as he deals with “Colonial” culture.
With new members along for the ride, the intrepid team will take on international spies, wily women and the ancient Atlantean threat at the very Gates to Hell in the Territory of Arizona and the untamed American West.
This is not the 1880 you read about in your history books…
Confederate sharpshooter Ashley Cooper fled abroad after the South lost in the War of Northern Aggression. While selling his services as a mercenary, Ash had no idea that his chance rescue of a British aristocrat in Afghanistan would lead him to unimaginable challenges. While facing wily women and difficult travels with his new friend Lord Reginald Harcourt, Ash will also discover alien technologies, a world full of foes, and a showdown with creatures of nightmare that will determine the future of mankind.

Creating a New Venue and Approach for Local Arts and Artists
There are too few places in Phoenix for local artists to share, be noticed, and sell their work. The city has a vibrant community of writers, poets, painters, photographers, and more; but there is a dearth of places for them to meet, exchange ideas, and meet the public. There is a need for such a venue.
Squash Blossom (705 N. First St.) is responding to that need in a totally new way—by allowing artists to use wall space and writers to meet one another and the public.
First, the restaurant started hosting the Monday Night meeting of the Central Phoenix Writers’ Meetup. (Mondays, 6:30-9)
Now Squash Blossom is creating a First Friday presence with authors signing their books, artists and photographers sharing their work, and live music. The first event will be Aug. 2, 6:30-9.
Offering such a supportive and available venue for the arts is something new and exciting in downtown. It deserves media attention.

Set in the world of American fashion publishing at the end of the 20th century with an all male cast of characters, firstname.lastname@example.org brings Laclos’ classic tale of deception and betrayal into the volatile age of electronic communication and HIV, exploring the timeless influence that words can have in illuminating the most fatal passions. More than a modern retelling of the 18th century French novel that inspired it, email@example.com is a controversial, cautionary tale.
Fascinated by the haunting images of the earliest known tarot cards, PhD candidate Glen Harrison is determined to research their secular origins. But when Glen proposes his thesis, his Art History professors are less than encouraging. The tarot, they say, is merely decorative, not ‘true’ art. Unsure about his own ability to produce a dissertation, Glen begins to wonder if they aren’t right. Perhaps his attraction to the tarot lies not in their artistic qualities but in their distance from academic associations. Floundering, he scrambles to find a new direction, when a series of seemingly chance encounters and random finds takes him down a new and terrifying path. Perhaps there is something more to the tarot than he has allowed himself to believe. The clues he stumbles upon in the forgotten neighborhoods and hidden libraries of pre-911 New York lead Glen on an inevitable journey to the most hidden reaches of West Africa, where a mystery as dark and ancient as the cards themselves unfurls…
